'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Loved Ones of Unaccounted For Young People Await Answers After Ski Resort Inferno
The relatives of young people unaccounted for after a devastating blaze at a establishment in a Swiss alpine town are facing an agonising wait for official news and pleading for clues about their children publicly.
The inferno ripped through the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Circulated video show the ceiling catching alight as bottles with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Authorities have indicated that it could take considerable time to formally name the fatalities of the tragedy, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and wounded another over a hundred. A spokesperson stated on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with work still underway to name the other six.
In the waiting period, families and friends have been using the internet to plead for information about their loved ones who were in attendance that night.
Appeals for the Missing
The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an appeal from his parent.
The who lives of Lutry near the city, told a local newspaper that she had gone back to Lausanne to see if he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in the capital, but did not locate him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she told the paper.
She continued that some of his friends had been located with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's foreign ministry has confirmed that a number of of its nationals have not been located.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage junior golfer, who hailed from Genoa but now residing in the UAE.
The national sporting body has said that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and true sportsmanship."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His mother told reporters that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and found himself at the bar.
"Someone with him told me they fled after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers said, "He was known for his kindness and positive demeanor, combined with great maturity. Every time ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to sources.
Her brother has posted an urgent request on social media, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the situation.
