Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has signed with Sheffield United only seven months after leading disrespectful taunts targeting the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. His seven-year spell with Leeds concluded by mutual consent in August.
One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading insulting songs about Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion party in April. Currently, the former England international will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to pull the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Previous Conflict Involving the Striker and Wilder
Both men had a past prior to Leeds moved up back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
All appears has been resolved with United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder spread widely in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that is an integral part of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Struggles
Bamford made 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
